Our faithful servants, the car. You can get your car on the road for many hours if you give it proper maintenance and repairs. You should note any unusual symptoms in your car as this could indicate a larger problem. Noise is a common sign, but being aware of unusual smells may help you spot potential problems sooner. These are the most common car odors and will help you recognize what to do if you notice that particular odor.

1. Burnt Rubber

Burnt rubber smells like rubber and it is burning. If you feel the burning sensation, take a look at all of the rubber parts in your car. Most likely, the friction between the rubber and moving metal parts causes the burning. This could be caused by a loose or slippage in the cooling system or power steering system.

2. Hot oil

The oil heats up when you drive. However, it is contained in its system so you shouldn’t feel the burning smell. If you do smell it, this could indicate that the oil circulation system is not working properly. It may also be dropping onto a hot component such as the exhaust system. Next, schedule an appointment to have your vehicle inspected and corrected. Low oil levels can cause engine damage if left untreated.

3. Gasoline

A leakage in one or more of the pipes that passes it could cause gasoline to smell while you drive. Either the fuel tank or fuel injector could be the source of the gas leakage. A constant fuel smell after turning off your engine in a vehicle from the 70s is normal. If it is stronger, get it checked immediately. Make an appointment to bring your vehicle into our auto shop.

4. Burning Carpet

This could indicate that your brake pads are worn or that your rotors might be too hot. You should take immediate action to fix any brake problems.

If you continue to smell the stench and are not driving in stop-and go traffic, it is a good idea to have your brakes checked as soon as you can.

5. Syrup

The engine coolant leakage is what gives this sweet smell. This can be dangerous for your engine as the coolant depends on the enclosed system to cool it. Overheating can be caused by coolant leakage. Avoid opening radiators when the temperature is high to avoid burning yourself.

This can cause serious damage to your vehicle, and even lead to your vehicle overheating.

6. Rotten Eggs

This is a sign that your catalytic conversion has problems. This smell indicates that the converter is having trouble converting the engine’s gases into a form that can then be released. It can indicate that your engine is having problems with the catalytic converter.

Do not worry about what they may mean. Bring it to Framingham’s top auto shop. We will fix any problem that you might have.
